Jennifer Marcus, MD

Founder and CEO

Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Marcus had extensive experience in the insurance industry.  As a Director at AIG, she increased her Division’s volume over four hundred percent while expanding it into the international market.  She had similar successes at a national medical equipment and supply company as well as Merck & Company, receiving multiple awards for new pharmaceutical product launches and market expansion.

Inspired by her experiences at Merck, she pursed medical school and became a board-certified anesthesiologist.  She has served on the hospital-based Surgical Quality Review Committee, Same Day Surgical Care Workflow Committee, and Obstetric and Gynecologic Review Committee.

Coordinating her organizational and clinical skills, Dr. Marcus became the CEO of a multispecialty medical practice consisting of neurosurgeons, pain management, physiatry, and physical therapy.   In this role, she spearheaded a massive expansion of the practice, both in terms of geographical footprint and scope of practice.  She negotiated payor contracts to transition the practice from out-of-network to in-network, while developing new payors in the workers’ compensation and personal injury markets.

While revamping the group’s Revenue Cycle department, Dr. Marcus developed a unique expertise in the regulatory environment surrounding healthcare invoicing and remittancing, particularly with respect to ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and HITECH.  She was able to leverage this knowledge to increase the profitability of the group by 30% per year.  In doing so, she discovered that the non-transparent world of healthcare insurance created vulnerabilities not only to providers but also to the sponsors of self-funded plans.

Further, she developed a clinical quality of care program to analyze performance improvement of patients receiving conservative care, the success rate associated with disease severity and comorbidities, medication utilization, including opiates without surgery, compliance with care, and the predictive likelihood of surgery at initial visit.  With surgical patients, the program analyzes opiate use, pain management procedure requirements, associated physical therapy requirements and the duration of time until the patient is back to their previous activity level. She has led the mission to counsel patients regarding opiate use in order to eliminate its abuse.

Apart from providing the highest quality patient care, Dr. Marcus’s mission is to achieve substantial healthcare cost reductions while preserving patient’s benefits and their access to care.  To accomplish this goal, she has developed novel, technology-driven strategies, focusing not only population health, but also on claims data and the methods by which healthcare plans can achieve greater transparency and control over their expenditures.

Dr. Marcus has consistently been voted “Top Doc” by her peers.
